Why Your Houston Home Needs Professional HVAC Inspection: What We Look For in Every Service

April 4, 2026

Before any professional air duct cleaning begins, AH-CHOO! Indoor Air Quality performs a comprehensive pre-service inspection of your entire HVAC system. This is not a sales tactic — it is a diagnostic process that determines exactly which components need attention and guides our cleaning approach.

Here is what our NADCA-certified technicians look for during every free inspection.

Return Duct Condition

We examine accessible sections of your return ductwork for accumulated debris, visible biological growth, disconnected joints, gaps in duct sealing that allow unconditioned air to infiltrate the system, and evidence of pest intrusion or water damage. Return ducts typically carry the heaviest debris load because they draw air from every room in your home.

Evaporator Coil Status

The evaporator coil receives the most detailed attention during our inspection. We look for accumulated dust and biological matter that reduces heat transfer efficiency, visible mold growth or discoloration on coil fins, corrosion or physical damage to the coil structure, and condensate drain pan condition and drain line patency.

Blower Fan and Motor Assembly

We assess the blower fan for debris accumulation on blade surfaces that causes imbalance and reduces airflow, visible wear on bearings and motor housing, proper belt tension and alignment for belt-driven systems, and normal electrical operation and amperage draw.

Plenum Box Assessment

The plenum box — where all duct branches converge at the air handler — is the highest concentration point for accumulated debris in your entire system. We evaluate the depth of accumulated material, presence of biological contamination, and structural integrity of seams and connections.

Supply Ducts, Registers, and Grills

Every supply register is removed and examined for accumulated debris, the interior of each register box is inspected for buildup and contamination, accessible sections of supply ductwork are evaluated for debris depth and airflow restriction, and vent cover condition affecting return air pattern is assessed.

Heating Chamber Inspection

For homes with gas-fired heating systems, we examine the heating chamber for accumulated soot and combustion residues, gas flame condition and color, and heat exchanger integrity and corrosion.

What Happens After the Inspection

Our technician shares the findings with you transparently, shows you photos of the components when requested, and recommends the appropriate service plan based on what was found. There is no sales pressure, no hidden charges, and no obligation to proceed. If we find that your system does not need cleaning, we will tell you that directly.
